Merchandise & POS

As music fans become more eco-conscious, sourcing sustainable merchandise is a key component of your sustainability plan! Sustainable merchandise has become fairly accessible and we are seeing leading artists and labels leading this charge too.

Blue Action: Only sell merchandise that meets Oceanic Global’s sustainability guidelines.

When designing and/or selling merchandise:

Consider if what you are selling is single-use or will be treated as disposal. Consider the quality and estimated lifespan of all items. Choose items that are durable, long-lasting and will be used beyond the immediate experience.

Source plastic-free options, including options with plastic-free packaging.

Select merchandise producers that manufacture locally, utilise renewable energy, pay workers properly, create with a range of recycled, sustainable, fairtrade and organic materials, and print with eco-friendly inks.

Ensure that packaging also aligns with sustainability initiatives (plastic-free, responsibly sourced) including bags given to customers.

Stay away from upcycled plastic-clothing and items that need to be washed regularly as they add to microplastic shedding.

Ask customers if they want a bag before offering them one.

CASE STUDY:

The band Sunfruits collaborated with Green Music Australia to create organic t-shirts with the slogan ‘No Music on a Dead Planet’ – this has since exploded into a movement with a variety of artists collaborating on more merchandise designs with this message.
